Magic Moments on Ordinary Days

The other day in my “all in a day’s work” blog I mentioned that I didn’t take part in any tea parties at work that day. Whenever we take a toy tea set into a playgroup, we always have "tea" with at least one little person.
Later I got to thinking that I had never seen my own daughter have a tea party with her stuffed animals here at home, and I thought that was odd, as it seems to be almost a rite of passage for little girls. You see it on commercials, on TV shows, in movies... you read about them in story books...it's one of those timeless childhood traditions. She has a tea set, and plenty of stuffed friends, and very active imagination…and yet seemed to have skipped over that little milestone. Maybe she has done it at Jodi's or at Grandma's but never at home, with her own "friends".

And then yesterday, when I came around the corner, I walked right into one.

There was a full tea party going on, with the tea set, and the stuffed friends, and miraculously, her brother wasn’t trying to destroy it. He wasn’t anywhere near her, he was actually entertaining himself, which allowed me to sit down for a few minutes and enjoy a cup of tea with my daughter, Grumpy Bear, Secret Bear, and Bunny.

Makenna then suggested that instead of Family Game night, we have a Tea Party that night. I told her I was going out with some friends but that her daddy would love to have a tea party with her later on.

And then, another ordinary miracle…Jack found us and he and Makenna had tea together….
They played out their roles so well – she being the gracious host, he minding his manners and respecting the way things were set up.

Makenna soon moved on to another activity, but Jack stayed, enjoying another cup with Makenna’s friends.

Then, daddy came home and Jack insisted he join in on the fun.

Just an ordinary day…but a rite of passage that all kids seem to go through, and I was lucky enough to catch it with my camera. It was the end of a long day, and as I sat drinking tea with them, and watching them play “tea party”, I was treated to another moment for the memory book…I’m so glad I was a part of it.
