I love you, I love you not...

I know I am breaking with tradition by writing this on a Thursday and not a Sunday, but it's the end of the work week for me, and I didn't write one last week because I was caught up in all of the "long weekend/holiday/family stuff/summer goodness" thing.

And this week, it was just too. damned. hot. I came home from work and once the kids were in bed just crashed on the couch in the basement.

Soooo......

I love you not...

Okay, all you people that are proclaiming how wonderful this heat wave is. That you love summer. Bring on the heat. I ask you this: Are you making this proclamation from your air conditioned office? your air conditioned home? your air conditioned vehicle?
Cause for the past 3 days, my workplace has been a Bus. A bus that yes, has AC, when I am driving. But the majority of my time on that bus is spent sitting, with the engine off, without AC. Sitting for up to 2 hours at a time, with no AC, in parking lots with no shade. Yes, there is a fan on the bus, which blows hot air on me while I sit there. Then, when my day is over, I get into my own personal vehicle, which also does not have AC, and drive home in the heat, stopping at least once for construction, and arrive to my home, which...you guessed it, also does not have AC. Sleeping on the third floor with no AC has been...hot.
So those of you who love this heat and want more of it...come sit for 2 hours on my bus. Or drive a vehicle with no AC, or try sleeping in a house with no AC. Then we'll see how awesome it is. I love summer as much as anyone else, but THIS is not what I call summer. This is not fun.

No, my child is not toilet trained, thankyouverymuch. Yes I know that he is 2 and a half. Yes I know that his sister was out of diapers by her second birthday. Honestly, I don't care. I am not committed to doing it with him yet, and I am okay with that. I promise he will not go to school in diapers. When it happens, it happens.
But, here's what Jack is doing, at 2 and a half. He can tell you his full name, and if you have a crayon and a piece of paper, he can tell you how to spell his name. He knows all of his ABCs and can identify them at random. He can count to 20 and identify those numbers as well. He has books memorized and can eat a bowl of soup completely on his own. He was done with bottles and soothers a year and a half ago, by his first birthday and...oh...did I mention that he knows that he lives in Ontario, and can name all of the provinces and territories and if you present him with a map of Canada he can show you where they all are, in random order?
Yeah...he's still in diapers, but with 2 full years left before he starts JK, I have a feeling he's going to be okay.

People that smoke around kids. It's not that i don't like you, it's that I don't like that you do that. And I know that as a child, I was around plenty of smokers, and that I turned out just fine, but really, with all that is known now, with all the education and choices available, is it THAT HARD to go outside, away from your child? or at least go to a different area outside? or wait till you are out of the car? really? I don't know if i think it's worse smoking around your own kids, in the house with them, in the vehicle with them, while they are sitting on your lap, or around someone else's kids. At a children's park, sporting event, campground, etc. Is it THAT hard to wait till the game is over or wait till you leave the park? Yes, you have rights as a smoker, but kids have rights as non smokers. They are still people. I am married to a smoker and my dad is a smoker, but there is no way that there is smoking in my house, or a vehicle my kids are in. It irks me how this is not common sense to all.

I love you....

My finished basement. Best decision and investment in this house Jeff and I have ever made. In this oppressive heat wave it has kept us relatively cool, and sane.

Nicholas Sparks Books. He is my favourite author. He has written books such The Notebook, Message in a Bottle, Dear John, The Last Song, etc. I just finished The Last Song this week and as with most of his books, I couldn't help but cry. I get completely submersed into his books and truly cannot put them down.

Summertime. What a great long weekend last weekend was. Thursday we enjoyed the Canada Day BBQ and parade and then a great afternoon and dinner back at our house with family. Makenna spent Friday morning at a friend's house (friend with a pool!) and then we went to a Splash and Boots concert, which the kids just loved. Saturday was spent at the Goderich Children's Festival and then at a pool party at Jeff's parents that ended with s'mores and hotdogs around the campfire. THAT is what summer is about.
