Flubber! Gak! Fun!

Earlier in the week, a friend was telling me about the "Messy Mayhem" week she was holding at her home daycare. Along with many other things, they were making"Gak". Some call it "Gak", others call it "Flubber", others likely call it something else again, but whatever you call it, kids love it. It can be found in the sensory area of our local Children's Festival every year, and it is one of Makenna's favourite things about that dayl. I found out this week they sell it at the Festival, but it is simple to make.

So, reminded by my friend's "Messy Mayhem" week, I finally got around to making some "Flubber" of my own.

First, mix 1 cup white glue with 1 cup water. Add some food colouring. Stir.

In a separtae bowl, mix 1 1/2 tbsp Borax (laundry soap) with 1 cup water.

Stir.

Pour Borax mixture into Glue mixture and stir constantly with fork. Glob will start to form.

Once the Glob starts to form, knead the mixture with your hands

Keep kneading and playing with it until it gets to this point. Drain any excess water.

Then, you can play with it any way you want. It's kind of like playdough, kind of like silly putty. But if you leave it, it flattens out like this:

But it is thick enough that you can make imprints into it.

And then ball it all up again...


This kept my kids...all of them...engaged for over an hour.
