I grew up in a village of 500 people and now live in a beach town of 10 000. Wife to Jeff, Mama to Makenna and Jack. This is my place to share what's up with us, and the place where I sometimes need to pour my heart out about the not so sunshiney moments. This is my happy place. Just Another Day...

I have the day off today and the kids and I, although we could have went to a playgroup, swimming, visiting, berry picking, etc etc etc, decided to spend the day at home. As the weather warms up and summer schedules fill up, I really covet days at home.
So, my kids are still in their jammies. I started the day with a phone call from a great friend who lifted my mood - thank you. With all the laundry and cleaning still done from the weekend, I didn't feel a pressing need to do anything around the house. So I began a project I've long been meaning to get to.
I have stacks and stacks of magazines. Parenting magazines, recipe magazines, craft magazines. Every so often I go through them and clip out what I want to keep and then recycle the rest. Today was that day for the food magazines. My goal is to create a recipe binder with all of my recipes, from magazines, from recipe cards, from the backs of packages, etc...one giant binder (or more than one binder maybe) with EVERYTHING together, where I can SEE it. I knew there were lots of great recipes in those magazine, but was not going through all of them each week...who has time for that? So the stack was jst getting higher, and great ideas were being forgotten.

I had kept magazines from as far back as 2002. Before I was married. So today I cut all the recipes out that I wanted to keep and now I have a giant file folder full of them. One step closer to the binder. My favourite magazine for recipes is the Kraft What's Cooking Magazine - a free magazine that comes right to my door - gotta love free!

While I was doing that, Makenna and Jack were making a craft. You may have heard about Makenna's recent interest in butterflies. Today she asked to make a butterfly craft. So I pulled out the old standby - coffee filter butterflies with clothespin bodies. A craft I have done at work every year for a long time. This kept them both occupied for quite awhile.

(I don't know why that picture flipped sideways).

I also have craft magazines that I get ideas from on a monthly basis. GREAT ideas. This is my favourite craft magazine for kids, and if you have or work with any kids, its definitely worth reading. I bought a subsciption for Jodi for Christmas one year - any childcare provider would love this.

Also this morning, I held my daughter as she cried. why you ask? Because she doesn't want her tooth to fall out. She was eating an apple and with each bite the loose tooth bled a bit. She could taste the blood and was panicking. She is now convinced that she doesn't want to lose any teeth, doesn't want to get "big girl teeth", doesn't want to be a "big girl", doesn't want the tooth fairy to come, doesn't want "any part of it".
Oh, the fun we are in for with this girl.
Right now, Makenna and Jack are having quiet time and so am I...something else I treasure about days at home. Later we will go outside and maybe go for a walk (if I can convince Makenna to get out of her pjs). Tonight I will make mini cheesecakes for a good friend and maybe work some more on that binder project.
I love days at home. I am quite content here. This is my centre.

Its just another day, but it's a good one.
